License plate recognition for automatic access

License plate recognition allows vehicles to automatically access barriers without passes, cards, or manual intervention. A license plate recognition camera reads the license plate directly and automatically activates the connected barriers once a vehicle is authorized.

This ensures fast throughput, less waiting time and reliable access management.

Thanks to automatic license plate recognition software and CAT Access , administrators can easily control who has access and when. The solution is suitable for holiday parks and campsites, among others, and integrates seamlessly with central access management.

We are happy to advise you on the right solution for your situation.

Limit the number of cars

While PIN codes, barcodes, and CAT Cards are excellent access solutions, they’re not foolproof. This is because your guests can easily share their PINs or cards with others, granting unauthorized access. Our anti-passback system can already address this significantly, but license plate recognition makes it even more effective. After all, no one lends their car out without permission. Moreover, unauthorized license plates simply won’t be granted access.

Let the system recognize license plates.

License plate recognition is a welcome addition to your guests’ experience. It gives them a positive, welcoming feeling.
By entering the license plate number in advance you enable quick access.

Your guests won’t have to experience any delays at reception or the intercom. There’s also no need to maneuver to present cards or codes, minimizing the risk of collision damage.

How does license plate recognition work?

1. Register license plate
In the reservation process, it is possible to ask your guests for the license plate of the vehicle they are arriving in. This links the license plate to the reservation data of your guest.
When your guest arrives, the license plate is read into a database in CAT Access. It is checked whether this license plate is entitled to access. If this is the case, the barrier will be opened immediately.
If your guest has not yet provided a license plate number when making the reservation, or if they arrive in a different car, it is possible to use a PIN code that is provided when making the reservation. Thanks to CAT Learn, it is possible to learn the license plate by entering the PIN code at the entrance. From that moment on, access based on license plate recognition is possible.
With the management software, various overviews of all incoming and outgoing movements can be created quickly and easily. This allows you as the manager to keep a good overview of access.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does license plate recognition work with our access control software?

Our CAT Access client software uses license plate recognition to automatically grant vehicles access to the site, without the need for a physical pass.

In the CAT Access client’s management screens, you can easily link a license plate to an access pass or reservation. As soon as the vehicle arrives at the barrier, the license plate is read by a camera and recognized by the system. If the license plate matches a valid access pass, the barrier opens automatically.

Within the system, you can configure how many vehicles are permitted access, which is useful for reservations with multiple license plates. You can also view transactions for a specific license plate and adjust access permissions. This way, the software combines flexibility with security and ease of use for your guests.

Within the CAT Access client, you can set a maximum number of vehicles per booking in combination with license plate recognition. This prevents guests with multiple license plates from gaining unlimited access to the grounds. The setting is linked to the booking number, so even with multiple tickets/license plates per booking, a limit of, for example, 1 or 2 vehicles is maintained.

Yes, this is possible. In the CAT Access client, you can grant access to multiple vehicles (license plates) with a single booking or card. You then determine how many vehicles are allowed access per card type or reservation. This feature is intended for situations such as families with multiple cars, where shared access is limited.

Anti-passback prevents a card or license plate from granting access again until a valid exit has been registered. This prevents multiple vehicles or people from gaining access with a single access card or license plate. You can choose between standard anti-passback or anti-passback per booking number, which is useful for multiple cards on a single booking.

Within the CAT Access client transaction screen, you can filter by card number, booking number, or license plate number. Note: You must enter the full license plate number to see results. This feature is particularly useful for access control or retrieving log files in the event of incidents or guest inquiries.

No, in principle, a license plate must be linked to a valid booking or card to gain access. However, there is an exception via the ESP function (“Open at No Access”), which allows you to grant temporary or exceptional access, for example, during the day for loading and unloading. This function is managed via settings in the CAT Access system. Of course, there is always the option to open the barrier manually, for example, via the CAT app.
